Welcome to my blog! Over the next few weeks and months I plan on using this as a means to chronicle my efforts to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials Marathon.

A journey of a thousand miles...

Many have heard the infamous words, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Few have a lived it.

I find myself at a point in my life where many possible "journey's" lie before me and it is simply my choice as to which ones I will take the first step of. For someone as indecisive as myself, the potential choices play with my mind. On the one hand, I could give up on my running, live a quiet and normal life, and try to find someone to start a family with; you know, live "The American Dream." On the other hand, I could continue steadfast in my running while continuing to pursue a personal life that leads me down the road to the golden pot at the end of the rainbow which consists of a house full of kids, a fat 401 k, and a steady job for the next 40 years. Last but not least, there is the option to throw off the temptations of the corporate world and "chase my passion, not my pension."

I choose the third. I choose to not look back in 20 years and wonder, "What if?" I choose to pursue my goals, but not let them consume me. I choose to make that first step.

At the end of the day, that is what it comes down to: deciding to take the first step. Whether it's running a new personal best, shedding a few pounds, becoming a better person, or whatever your "journey" may be, all that you can do is take that first step... and then another... and then another. It is the accumulation of the first step, second step, third step, etc. that will eventually bring you to the end of your journey.

Take your first step today, for you never know when the path that lies before you will no longer be an option...
